\"\"Acquiring Louisiana<\/em><\/span><\/strong> – A royal<\/span><\/span> story that began in \u201cNouvelle France\u201d (later named Quebec).<\/span><\/p>

When King Louis XIV<\/strong>, decided to expand the Kingdom of France beyond the oceans, he sent an exploration mission to create Nouvelle France. Later, the explorers launched a journey in canoe<\/span> to the unknown traveling south on the St Lawrence River through the wild, inhabited by ‘painted’ savages. They settled their camp as they arrived at a crossing of three rivers naming it: Camps des Trois Rivieres<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>

Its proximity to waterways was ideal to build a trade post bearing a name that was quickly shortened to “Des Trois”<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Fortunately for the US<\/strong>, Napoleon\u2019s eyes were turned toward Europe and his desperate need to fund an obsessive war against Russia and England.<\/span><\/p>

The emperor wanted to keep it but knew it was too far and too large to defend.<\/span><\/p>

He sold the port of New Orleans for $5 million<\/u><\/strong> and then offered the entire territory<\/span> of Louisiana in 1803 for a bare $15 million<\/strong> ($0.03 per acre!).<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Gold Rush period sparked a new wave of trade, mapping a new commerce routes between the West and East coast, which happened to cross the Louisiana territory<\/span>. With most waterway trades of the US Colonies taking place from the port of New Orleans, had Napoleon chosen to keep it, the US would have been forced to declare war on France<\/strong> to acquire it.<\/span><\/p>

In fact, President Jefferson wrote a secret coded note<\/strong><\/a><\/span> to Ambassador Livingston stipulating that if France chose not to sell Louisiana, to prepare for a possible alliance with\u2026.England to acquire New Orleans by force.<\/span><\/p>

An ironic, yet possible scenario despite the considerable role France played aiding the US defeat the British.<\/span><\/p>

However, the suspense<\/span> ended with the sale of the territory<\/span>, which Napoleon ceded to the US at a bargain price to seal an iron alliance with the newly founded US Republic.
